Augen GENTOUCH 7-inch Android tablet $149 at Kmart very soon

Augen GENTOUCH 7-inch Android Tablet will sell for $149 at Kmart

The name Augen doesn’t ring any bells, although it does sound like something a player would scream out loud in a Street Fighter II match.   The company is based in Hollywood, Florida, and has products ranging from eReaders, Netbooks, to Internet Tablet PC’s. Their latest incarnations that peaked my interest are the 7-inch Android tablet “GENTOUCH”, and 7-inch e-Reader “TheBook”.

GENTOUCH is running on Android 2.1, it’s a 7-inch touchscreen tablet  with 800 x 480 resolution.  The CPU is clocked at 800 Mhz, although there is no mention of what brand. It’s memory is 256MB, with 2GB of storage and an SD/MMC card slot upping that capacity by another 16GB.  WiFi is your connection to the world.  The best part, it’s only $149.99.  I made a call to Augen this morning, they advised me that shipments have been sent to Kmart, and the company expects Kmart to distribute them to their stores very soon (in the next week). Augen is even including a leather case with that price.  We’re hoping to get our hands on a unit very soon.

TheBook eReader is a steal, at $89, WiFi, built-in speaker, 2GB of storage expandable to 32GB via SD, and bundled with 150 books, you can’t go wrong.  It has a full QWERTY keyboard, similar to the Kindle, and a TFT color LCD.  It’s not running Android, but some other Linux OS, you can check out the video below for more on TheBook, or just head on over to Kmart and pick one up as it’s in stock now.
