3G can't be more than 2 years old. It was released in July '08 and available until very recently. I think it's quite disrespectful practice by Apple to make device still available for purchase as new instantly obsolete. But I guess business is business - just stop whining and upgrade.

Why do people need to upgrade at all?
Making iPhone owners who have older, scratched, non-current iPhones guilty of not upgrading is deceitful. It is simply a tactic by Apple and AT&T and other retailers to up their profits by making current owners feel jealous and guilty for not having the latest, greatest device. But time marches on and so does technological progress; soon all those who upgraded to iPhone 4 will be exhorted to upgrade to iPhone 5 and made to feel guilty about owning an "outdate", scratched, slow iPhone 4. Keep what you have or get an Android phone. There are more choices of carriers and the system is better than iPhone OS.
