Nokia today officially unveilled the N8 smartphone. Whereas most other phones take on a typical black, white, or silver appearance, the Nokia N8 comes in a range of different colors. In fact, with the 12-megapixel shooter out the back and HDMI output on the side, the Nokia N8 almost looks like a fashion-conscious compact camera. Look for it in hues like blue, orange, and pale green. Me? I’m boring. I’ll stick with black.
Powering the Nokia N8 is the newer Symbian ^3 operating system. Nokia says that there are several “major advances” in this iteration, giving users multi-touch support on a big display. You can also do flick-scrolling and pinch-zoom, just like the iPhone. Symbian^3 is supposed to have better memory management too, allowing for better multi-tasking capabilities.
Realistically, I don’t think that the Nokia N8 is particularly groundbreaking, but it is still a nice piece of fashionable hardware. The smartphone is set to launch in “select markets” during the third quarter of this year, it ships with Ovi Maps for walking and driving directions. Expect the price to be in the 370 Euro range.
