Apple said 8.7 million iPhones were shipped, a 100 percent growth over the quarter a year prior. Also, a 33 percent increase in Mac computer sales, including the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air were reported, that’s 3.36 million units shipped.

Apple also reported revenue of $15.68 billion, higher than the $11.88 billion in revenue from last year’s quarter.

Steve Jobs said “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about” in a statement.

That sounds like a tablet to me. Stay tuned for Apple’s event scheduled on January 27th.
