Text-to-Donate to the Salvation Army Canada

Text-to-Donate to the Salvation Army CanadaWhat do you want for Christmas? It’s easy to yearn for the newest Guitar Hero or MacBook Pro, but you also have to realize that there are a lot of people who are less fortunate than you. They need warm clothes, a hot meal, and just a little bit of love. Thankfully, it’s easier than ever to give back to your community.

Sure, you could just as hit up a chaarity’s website and donate using your credit card, but this is even easier. The Salvation Army has launched a new program in Canada that allows you to donate via your cell phone. All you have to do is send a special text message to their five digit code.

Text the word “HOPE” to 45678 and your cell phone bill will automatically show a $5.00 contribution to the Salvation Army. Rinse and repeat as necessary, donating as much or as little as you’d like. The Salvation Army aims to raise funds for the “vulnerable and marginalized.”

The good news is that this short code will work on any Rogers or Bell mobile device. The bad news is that Telus isn’t participating for some reason or another. I wonder what’s up with that.

Hi everyone, it’s Megan here from TELUS.

TELUS is not currently able to participate due to current technical issues. We are working on those issues and we look forward to participating as soon as they are resolved. It is a terrific program and as a company that believes in giving back, we look forward to being a part of it

We are however big supporters of the Salvation Army as part of our commitment to ‘give where we live’ and because we truly value impact they have in our communities. This year our TELUS team donated over $55,000 to local Salvation Army chapters across Canada from Burnaby to Barrie to Montreal. We also fund and lend willing hands to a program called “TELUS Tuesdays” at the Salvation Army’s soup kitchen in Vancouver to serve hundreds of hot lunches every Tuesday to the hungry.
