Video: Buster Bros to Burst Bubbles on Apple iPhone
The great thing about the Apple iPhone and other similar handhelds is that they provide the perfect platform for gaming nostalgia. If you go back into the 80s and 90s, you’ll find that the arcade cabinets of the day were no more powerful than what we hold in our smartphones today. Well, another classic is on its way to the App Store and bubble-attackers couldn’t be happier.

Some people may know the game as Pang, but I grew up playing it as Buster Bros. I can’t even begin to count how many quarters I pumped into the arcade machine playing this game, walking around on those two-dimensional platforms and avoiding the tiny bubbles that are the attackers of my own creation.

In case you’re not as familiar with Buster Bros, the premise is that you navigate around the screen and shoot vertical arrows upward toward large bubbles. These larger bubbles burst into smaller bubbles. Hit them again and the smaller ones turn smaller still until you get to the smallest size. Those ones pop for good. Clear all the bubbles and you clear the stage.

The version bound for the iPhone and iPod touch will get loaded up with upgraded graphics and sound effects, while maintaining the classic look and feel of the original. No date has been revealed, but it’s good to know that it’s coming. Boom!
