Have you ever tried setting up your camera so that you could take a picture with all your friends? Most cameras come with self-timers, but it can be very challenging to frame these photo opportunities just right. Samsung is coming to the rescue by releasing two new digital cameras that happen to have secondary screens mounted on the front of the camera. Yes, on the front!
This is certainly an interesting concept, not only for group pictures, but also for self portraits when framing can be even more challenging. To make matters even more interesting, the front-mounted display happens to be a touchscreen. When you tap it, it takes your picture. This can be great for people who do that outstretched arm pic with friends.
The front screen measures 1.5-inches across the diagonal, so it won’t be the biggest thing in the world. It could prove to be quite functional though. Going through the rest of the specs, we find a 12-megapixel sensor and 4.6x optical zoom.
You’ll also notice the severe lack of buttons on the back of these cameras. That’s because the Samsung ST500 comes with a 3.0-inch touchscreen and the ST550 gets a 3.5-inch touchscreen. No word on price or release info.
