Want to play some video games on your Google Android-powered T-Mobile G1 smartphone, but you’re not satisfied with what is being offered through Android Market? Looks like you can now open up a huge can of nostalgic kickass, because the GP2X emulator has been confirmed for the platform.

I’m not entirely sure how good the controls will be, playing on what is really meant to be a messaging-friendly QWERTY keyboard, but when you can hack and slash as Haohmaru, you can’t really complain all that much. Hanzo is pretty awesome too.

As you can see through both the image above and the video below, the GP2X emulator for the T-Mobile G1 doesn’t seem to have too much trouble handling the classic Samurai Shodown fighting game. It’s also been demo’d playing Super Mario World and Ghosts ‘n Goblins. Freaking sweet.

At this point, the GP2X emulator is only in the “pre-alpha” phase of development, but it’s good to see that it’s trucking along for some Android-fueled gaming on the go.
