Glancing at this hunk of matte black plastic, you’d assume that the gadget is little more than an external numeric keypad. And you’d be wrong. Despite its outward appearance as a keypad, the device that you see here is actually a portable hard drive from Lenovo.
The ThinkPad USB Portable Secure Hard Drive is designed, first and foremost, to keep your data as safe as possible. It uses high-level 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard security to keep your precious documents and incriminating photos as safe as possible. Presumably, you use the keypad to enter a secret PIN, just as you would on something like the Corsair Padlock flash drive.
This handy little portable storage device has been so well received, particularly by the business community, that it has won one of the Red Dot Best of Innovations 2009 Awards. This is a pretty prestigious award and it helps to pin another feather in Lenovo’s cap.
I’m thinking that something like the ThinkPad Secure Hard Drive would be a great accompanying device to something like the new dual-screened Lenovo laptop that has everyone talking. Assuming you can still fit anything else into your notebook bag aside from that big laptop.
