After literally years of rumor-mongering and supposedly leaked concept pictures, the first official Google phone is finally available for mass market consumption. The T-Mobile G1 is the first commercially-available smartphone to be powered by the new Google Android open source platform.

I probably don’t need to remind you of this phones features, like its large touchscreen display, QWERTY keyboard, and bevy of connectivity options. I don’t need to remind you of the Android Market where you’ll be able to nab all sorts of cool applications. I don’t need to remind you of how the big story here is the operating system and not the handset itself.

What I do need to remind you is that it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to waltz into just any T-Mobile kiosk and walk way with a G1 in hand. That’s because they’re still trying to handle those 1.5 million pre-orders. Good luck to you!
