You know how Apple has the capability to remotely remove or deactivate applications on your iPhone? It seems that the T-Mobile G1 with Google comes with much the same functionality.

Apple’s move has been met with quite a bit of contention, but they say that they are just trying to protect themselves and their customers. I guess HTC, T-Mobile, and Google feel the same way. Google states in its Android Market Terms of Service that such a “kill switch” exists there too.

Google cites the same security and privacy concerns as Apple, protecting its customers against malicious apps and other bad things. This will surely draw ire from the open source community, but is it really for the best?
