The original $30 for 6GB data plan that was released alongside the Apple iPhone 3G in Canada was meant to be promotional, being pulled at the end of August. When that time came around, Rogers and Fido decided to extend the promotion until the end of September. That date is drawing near and now we have official confirmation of the data plans that will replace it.

None of the new data plans being offered by Fido are anywhere close to offering the same kind of value as the 6GB/$30 data plan. They’re not even close. Set to go live on October 1st, these new data plans are as follows:

$15 – 2MB w/ Unlimited Emails for WM Devices – Overage = $5/MB for the first 5MB then $0.03/MB thereafter
$25 – 500MB w/ Unlimited Emails for WM Devices
$30 – 1GB w/ Unlimited Emails for WM Devices
$50 – 2GB w/ Unlimited Emails for WM Devices
$60 – 3GB w/ Unlimited Emails for WM Devices
$80 – 8GB w/ Unlimited Emails for WM Devices

Overage on the $25-$80 DSPs will be $0.03/MB

Now for the Flex Rates:
$30 – 500MB
$35 – 1GB
$50 – 2GB
$65 – 3GB
$85 – 5GB

Overages on the Flex Rate plans will be $0.03/MB

Fido (and presumably Rogers) are also instating a maximum monthly rate of $100, regardless of how much overage you accrue. This is thanks to the new Internet Overage Protection and it effectively provides unlimited wireless data for $100 a month.
