Even though it is not particularly well known around these parts for its mobile phones, Asus knows a thing or two about creating world class Windows Mobile smartphones. But that’s not what they’ve got for us today.

Instead, the newest creation from the company that brought us the Eee PC is the Asus AiGuru SV1, a Skype-enabled videophone that works without the aid of a computer. It’s a standalone device that lets you do the Skype video thing over a Wi-Fi connection. Naturally, Skype-based voice calls work just fine as well.

Preorders on the Asus AiGuru SV1 Skype videophone start today through skype.com/shop. Shipping will commence next month with the videophone being priced at $300 or so.
