It used to a moot point whether you wanted to carry around 500GB with you everywhere you went, because it just wasn’t something that was practical in a single device. That has now changed, because Western Digital is making it easier than ever for you to hold half a terabyte in the palm of your hand.

What you see here is the updated version of the WD My Passport portable USB drive. To my knowledge, these external hard drives do not require an external power source, relying solely on that USB connection to get the platter spinning as you need it. The range starts at 120GB, slowly working its way up until it tops out at a whopping 500GB.

If you want half a terabyte in the palm of your hand, you’ll need to fork out between $200 and $220 for the Western Digital My Passport drive.
