Well, I guess it’s pretty clear what design direction HTC will be taking over the next little while, because it seems that the HTC Touch Diamond style is infiltrating the rest of their smartphone line. That’s why the new HTC S740 smartphone is a little bit of an oddity.
In the past, the S710 and the S730 provided users with the best of two great worlds. On the one hand, you had a conventional candybar with a numeric keypad for phone calls, but you could also slide the phone open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. The new HTC S740 maintains this functionality, but wraps it up in the piano black of the Touch Diamond. And no, there is no touchscreen here, just like previous S700-series handsets.
Going through the specs, you’ll find quad-band GSM, dual-band 7.2Mbps HSDPA (900/2100), Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, 2.4-inch QVGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera, microSD expansion, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, GPS, FM radio, Google maps, and a 1000 mAh battery. The current plan has the HTC S740 launching in Europe next month.
