Why so serious? Let’s put a smile on that face, because after what seemed like an eternity, the merger between Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio has finally been completed. The FCC approval came a short while back, but the papers were not signed until this past weekend.

To be totally technical, the relationship between the two satellite radio operators is not really a merger, per se, because XM has become a subsidiary of Sirius. That’s why the new company is going to be Sirius XM Radio and not XM Sirius Radio. The total subscriber count now exceeds 18.5 million.

Will the partnership breathe new life into the satellite radio game? How will your programming be affected? Will we be able to save money as promised? As with all relationships, time will tell.
