With the Centro already available on big carriers worldwide, we can only expect the phone to become more popular and widespread now that Palm is selling it unlocked. That’s right, starting today you can pickup an unlocked Centro from Palm’s site for just $299. I give respect to any company who is willing to sell their phones unlocked even though it may cost more. This is definitely a smart move on Palm’s side.

Also announced, starting tomorrow, Google Maps with My Location will be available for Centros. This feature allows Google Maps to pinpoint your location using cell tower triangulation or GPS. A lot of the features included now imitate features already in-place on the iPhone, but getting the phone for $299 and unlocked may make it a viable option for those who don’t want to sign onto AT&T for 2 years or who are just looking for something different.
