I had the opportunity to attend the official launch event for the Atom-based Asus Eee PC 901 and the larger Asus Eee PC 1000 at Computex Taipei 2008. I fully expected to get a hands-on session with both additions to the Eee PC family and it was nice to see Asus CEO Jerry Shen in person. That was all well and good, but I didn’t think I was going to endure such a painful promotional video.
As the media continued to file their way into the room, Asus had a one-minute video looping on the projection screen. It showed some guy going for a ride on his mountain bike, trekking up the hill with an Asus Eee PC mounted to the handlebars. I can’t imagine why anyone would want a little laptop there and it’d probably be pretty hard to send emails while trudging up the path.
The new Eee PC 901 and Eee PC 1000 are supposed to offer better processing power and improved battery life. Yup, I found it man!
