The original Asus Eee PC is still selling like hotcakes, but the more tech-savvy amongst us really want to get our hands on an Intel Atom-based unit. And our wish is getting granted, it seems, in a little over two weeks. Digitimes is reporting that the Asus Eee PC 901 with an Intel Atom processor will be ready for consumer consumption as soon as June 3rd. That’s the projected shipping date.
In addition to getting a larger 8.9-inch display compared to the seven-inches found on the Eee PC 701, the Asus Eee PC 901 with the Atom processor is also getting some metal accents, a few cosmetic enhancements, and integrated Bluetooth! This is even a step-up from the recently released non-Atom Eee PC 900. We also hear that the Linux version will get some new software.
The trouble with the Atomic Eee PC 901 seems to come from the price. All of these upgrades are going to cost you and it seems that the Asus Eee PC 901 will sell for (just) “under $650.” That ain’t all that cheap anymore!
