When Dell acquired Alienware back in 2006, some analysts started to wonder if the higher end XPS line would start to cannibalize those sales. Maybe they have, because Dell is getting ready to trash the XPS line altogether. If you’ve been meaning to get a Dell XPS desktop, you’d better do it pretty soon.

Dell is saying that they will then focus their higher-end attention at Alienware, granting hardcore gamers their undivided attention. Interestingly, the announcement made no mention of the XPS line of laptop computers, but given that there are Alienware notebooks as well, it’s only a matter of time before they axe those offerings too.

This is probably the right move in terms of branding, because it’s about time that they capitalize a little more on the history and tradition brought by the Alienware brand. That said, I personally dig the appearance of XPS gear more than Alienware’s stuff. Maybe it’s just me.
