We were told that the Wi-Fi networks set up in Starbucks locations across the nation would start to offer free AT&T Internet service to all iPhone owners. It seems that they have now reneged on that promise.

While many Starbucks locations had been verified earlier as offering free Wi-Fi service to iPhone owners — all you had to do was go through the login splash page through your iPhone — it seems that these exact same locations are no longer granting free Internet access.

It’s unclear exactly what has happened. It could be that this pull is completely intentional, possibly paving the way for the 3G iPhone. Alternatively, it could just be a glitch in the matrix and everything will be hunky-doory again shortly.
