As popular as the Sidekick line is for T-Mobile, it’s still lacking in the video recording department. That’s about to change, as evidenced by this sneak peek into a firmware update for T-Mobile Sidekick LX. As you can see from the picture here, the camera mode not only shows a regular still camera, but there is also a video camcorder there as well. This points toward movie clips powered by the LX.

There hasn’t been any confirmation as to which codecs will be supported by the messaging-centric handheld, but there is a distinct possibility that the Sidekick LX will show some love for H.264. This is the codec that YouTube encodes videos in for Apple. If this is the case, it would also mean that you are able to watch YouTube videos directly on the LX. Sweet. They might even toss in a dedicated YouTube application for this purpose.

The H.264 support could just be wishful thinking, but it’s obvious enough that some sort of video recording and playback is coming to the Sidekick LX soon. And that’s pretty good already.
