I’m obviously joking about the stealing from baby pandas part, but I’m not kidding when I say that Asustek is planning on releasing a series of notebooks that will use bamboo for their outer casings. This is a sharp departure from the conventional wisdom of using plastic or metal for the outer shell of a laptop.

As you can see from the picture, it seems that Asus will still use some sort of aluminum frame to offer the notebooks some form of rigidity, because I’d imagine that the bamboo would be a little too flexible. The goal of this bamboo-themed series of notebooks is to promote the use of environmentally-friendly materials. By cutting down bamboo.

There will be both 11-inch and 12-inch variants of the bamboo notebooks, with pricing starting around $1650. Look for them this June.
