If you’re the proud owner of an Apple iPhone, you may want to stay away from certain third-party car chargers and FM transmitters, because they have a tendency to brick the popular Apple cell phone. Even though these units, which are sold through online stores and eBay, are marketed as being compatible with the iPhone, they not only not work, they also turn your iPhone into a smoking mess.

iPhone in Canada user Rico said that when he plugged his iPhone into a third-party car charger, his iPhone “just went black and overheated for about thirty minutes. Right now, it won’t turn on anymore.” A friend of mine had a similar experience, except his iPhone started smoking.

Bricking an iPhone is obviously not a very pleasant experience, so until the air has been cleared on the issue, you might want to avoid devices like the one shown here.
