Remember when just about everyone you knew had a flip phone and you just weren’t cool unless you got to snap your phone shut after a voice call? Well, it seems that times are changing and it could be partly due to the increased use of touchscreen displays.

According to a very unscientific poll, about one third of cell phone users prefer the candybar style of handset, narrowly beating out the clamshell/flip and the slider style of cell phones. At the time this article was written, candybars received 36.6% of the vote (2600 votes), compared to the 21.7% (1543 votes) and 23.7% (1681 votes) for flips and sliders, respectively.

The less conventional form factors, as you can imagine, have a much smaller following. For example, twist and swivel only got 0.5% and 1.3%, respectively. Dual slide and dual hinge are moving up a bit at 6.9% and 5.2%, respectively.
