The OLPC XO Laptop is meant to provide a basic computer to children in developing countries, but a few have inevitably fallen into the hands of die-hard enthusiasts. Not pleased with the performance of the weakling of a processor known as the 433 MHz AMD Geode, these hobbyists have managed to overclock the sucker by a notch or three.

One user on the OLPC News Forums was able to push the envelope up to 566 MHz, but he figured that it probably wasn’t the best idea to keep it at that speed, because the back of the screen got “noticeably warmer.” You wouldn’t want to end up with an extra toasty OLPC, that’s for sure.

As you can imagine, these techniques are not for the faint of heart and if you want some real performance, you probably shouldn’t be looking at the XO laptop in the first place. Then again, it’s always fun to see what is possible.
