Is T-Mobile Interested In Buying Sprint?

And the cell phone landscape in the United States just got a little more complicated. There are a couple of rumors swirling about that concern the state of Sprint and Nextel, both of which come from an anonymous Wall Street professional.

An announcement is expected in the next two to four weeks, but word on the street is that Sprint could be looking to spin-off Nextel to “help Sprint turn things around.” This is ironic, considering that they bought Nextel not that long ago.

The other (more interesting) possibility is that T-Mobile could be looking to acquire Sprint outright in an effort to avoid a price war. That’s because Sprint could be cutting subscription rates to attract new customers.
