We heard yesterday that Apple would be announcing some MacBook Pro updates today and the Cupertino crew has come through with a few announcements. The updated MacBook Pro is now equipped with a Penryn processor and the same multi-touch trackpad as the MacBook Air. The new Intel Core 2 Duo processors are supposed to be about 50% faster and more power efficient than the outgoing models, getting clocked at up to 2.6GHz.
The multi-touch trackpad for the Pro is smaller than the on the Air, but it allows for the same multi-touch gestures. The two higher end MacBook Pro models get treated to a new NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics and the top-end 17″ Pro has an option for LED backlighting. Pricing ranges from $1,999 to $2,799. But wait, there’s more.
The regular MacBook gets some upgrades as well. The processors are faster (2.1GHz, 2.4GHz) and the hard drives are bigger (120GB, 160GB, 250GB). Pricing on these 13-inch laptops start at $1,099 and tops out at $1,499 without any additional upgrades. Sadly, there is no multitouch here.
