Rogers Revamps Data Plans With Tiered Structure

Getting wireless data in Canada is still quite the pricey affair unless you’re willing to restrict yourself to the WAP universe using an operator-branded handset. Seemingly in an effort to provide us with more affordable data on the go, Rogers will be unleashing a new data plan structure for non-Rogers, Windows Mobile, and tether-using subscribers.

This new structure is based on tiers, so instead of always paying for data that you may or may not use, all Rogers customers who sign up will start off at the lowest level each month and then they get bumped up to the next tier when they reach a certain threshold. This effectively eliminates the concept of “overage” charges, so to speak, until you hit over 5GB in monthly usage.

There are seven tiers in all:
$15 – 20MB ~ Tier 1
$30 – 20MB to 60MB ~ Tier 2
$50 – 60MB to 500MB ~ Tier 3
$65 – 500MB to 1GB ~ Tier 4
$75 – 1GB to 2GB ~ Tier 5
$85 – 2GB to 3GB ~ Tier 6
$100 – 3GB to 5GB ~ Tier 7
$0.03 per additional MB

Note that all old plans will be grandfathered and these plans do not conflict with the $20 Communication Pack. Look for this new data structure to launch on March 18th.
