And Blu-ray wins yet another battle in the ongoing war for high-def format dominance. After some careful consideration, Wal-Mart has decided to fully embrace the high-definition of the Blu-ray format, casting HD DVD aside for good.

This follows in the footsteps of other major retailers and studios who have slowly been departing from the HD DVD format in favor of Blu-ray. This has already been announced by guys like Best Buy and Netflix, but when a gigantic chain like Wal-Mart hops onto the BD bandwagon, you know that HD DVD is in even more trouble than it has ever been.

The transition period will take some time, but by the time June rolls around, Wal-Mart will only be carrying Blu-ray movies and hardware machines, possibly with the exception of the HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360.
