If you’ve been thinking about buying a new iPod touch or Apple iPhone, it might be in your best interest to hold out for another month or two, because there’s a distinct possibility that Apple could be slashing prices by $100. You could then spend that extra hundred bucks on a nice meal or perhaps a copy of Guitar Hero III.
Just as Apple got rid of the 4GB iPhone, Steve Jobs could be saying farewell to the 8GB iPod touch as well. By doing this, he’ll be able to maintain that 2:1 storage capacity ratio that he’s been trying to keep between the two devices. As it stands, there would be three versions of the touch — 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB — and that’s just not acceptable in Apple land. In this way, the 8GB iPhone would cost the same as the 16GB touch, whereas the 16GB iPhone could cost the same as the 32GB touch. And then life would be in balance.
This rumored $100 price cut could coincide with the announcement of the SDK release near the end of February, but we can’t say for sure at this point. Seems like Apple loves gouging early adopters, eh?
