Having your mobile phone run out of juice is not a pleasant experience, especially when you don’t have your charger with you or you don’t have access to a power outlet. We live and die by our cell phones these days and I utterly feel naked when I leave the home without mine. As such, lugging around an extra battery usually isn’t a bad idea… unless you want the infinite power of the sun.

A nifty solar charger has been developed by Strap-Ya and it connects directly to your cell phone, dangling off the end like an oversized charm. Some people have Hello Kitty dangling off their phones, but you might prefer to have this solar panel. Yes, it doesn’t look particularly attractive, but the Strap-Ya solar charger is a heck of a lot more functional than a pink cat.

Assuming you’ve got good weather in your area, the device can fully charge your cell phone in about 6-10 hours. Alternatively, you can top up the unit using the provided AC adapter and use the Strap-Ya contraption as an emergency battery charger. No word on price, but they’ll be shipping this bad boy on February 9th.
