It’s not secret that I love the aggressive front fascia on the current generation Mitsubishi Lancer, but some people have complained that the car isn’t available in hatchback form. That could change before year’s end, because here are leaked sketches of what a production-ready Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback could look like.

The front end is essentially the same as its four-door sedan counterpart, but around the back is a quick-sloping rear end reminiscent of the Saab 9-3. I personally find these lines to be more aggressive than those found on the sedan, completing the “look how fast and good-looking we are” appearance that the Lancer should have in the first place.

In all likelihood, engine options will remain the same as the sedan, meaning that standard equipment calls for a 2.4L four-banger, whereas an Evo version will get treated to a turbocharged 2.0L and all-wheel-drive. A Ralliart version may also be offered in the States to compete against the WRX five-door.
