There’s no need to break the bank if you’re interested in getting a tablet PC. In fact, it can be done for less than $500 if you’re willing to put in a little elbow grease. The Asus Eee PC has been the hottest item this holiday season and it just got a little hotter, because a modder has managed to outfit the 7-inch wonder with a touchscreen display.

The net result, after the Eee PC has been loaded up with Windows XP, is a tablet PC on the uber cheap. All jkkmobile did was buy a $65 used touchscreen from eBay and shoved it into the Asus chassis. As you can see in the video below, the touchscreen works just fine for scrolling through web pages.

Now if only someone could convert the hinge on the Eee PC to one of those rotating hinges — like on the Latitude XT — and we’re in business.
