On my recent trip through Tokyo, there was one cell phone trend that really hit me. Japanese people seem to prefer flip phones and they particularly enjoy square-ish handsets with huge color displays. Fujitsu definitely recognizes this trend. The FOMA F801i series of phones from Fujitsu look like they fit right in with the rest the of FOMA lineup, but they’ve got a few extra features that’ll set them apart.

For starters, the colorful handsets are supposed to come with “high waterproof efficiency” in case you find yourself in the middle of a downpour. Other niceties include integrated GPS, four-level brightness LED, a 2.7-inch color display, a 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera with autofocus, and something called a “crime prevention buzzer.” This last feature is used when you get yourself in trouble, belting out a buzzer at 100 decibels. Help!

Available now in Japan, the Fujitsu FOMA F801i ships in light blue, orange, white, and black.
