The compact car segment is really heating up in North America, because we just don’t want to contend with rising gas prices anymore. Vehicles like the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit are quickly rising in popularity, but one auto company has embraced this segment for a very long time already. What you see here is a sneak peek at the Suzuki A-Star concept, a compact hatchback that will reportedly serve as the basis for the next-generation Suzuki Alto.

Set to make its official debut at the New Delhi Motor Show, the Suzuki A-Star will naturally be hitting the lower end of the market and it’ll likely have a price point to match. Production of the A-Star is scheduled begin in India starting in October 2008.

If the A-Star ever makes it to Canada and the United States, several changes will probably have to be made. For example, Suzuki is currently planning to use a 1.0L engine.
