Blockbuster desperately needs to find a way to remain relevant as the death of the DVD era isn’t decades away any more. Their solution, or at least one of them – deliver movies to your mobile phone. there is nothing concrete yet, but the company is apparently in negotiations with several handset manufacturers to create a Blockbuster Mobile Phone. Apparently the push to develop this latest form of media inundation came about as a result of the CEO’s fascination with watching movies on his Blackberry. Details are still very sketchy at this point, and the list of non-phone companies that have failed in their foray into the phone business is not short, but if a phone could make watching movies easy and affordable, and the phone itself was attractive and affordable, then I could see it working. On the other hand, they would have to come up with a pretty good reason why we should get their phone instead of just watching movies on the phone we already have. Free popcorn would probably be a good reason.
