I realize that it’d probably be more interesting to let the fur fly and listen in on what Steve Jobs has to say about the 2nd generation Microsoft Zune, but you know the Cupertino boss isn’t about to step forward with that opinion. Instead, let’s have a look at what Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has to say about his company’s latest line of portable media players.

As you may have heard, the Microsoft Zune 2 was announced late last night, giving consumers more choice beyond the brown 30GB unit that they were offered earlier. The Zune 2 will come in an 80GB hard drive-based model, as well as a pair of flash memory-based versions with 4GB or 8GB of memory. Almost sounds ironic, doesn’t it, that Bill Gates wants to give us options?

On a side note, it should be mentioned that most of the new features found on the Zune 2 can be had on the first Zune through a free software update, courtesy of Microsoft. The Zune Pad touch-sensitive control obviously doesn’t come with the software update.
