I’m not sure if the resulting videos would be best suited for submission to America’s Funniest Home Videos or to the next Jackass movie, but having a camera mounted on your helmet as you attempt to jump the Grand Canyon is pretty damn awesome.

The POV.1 from V.I.O. is a fully self-contained unit that is “built to capture hands-free video from your point-of-view.” On one end, you have the barrel of the camera itself that you can mount onto your helmet. A wire runs to the other end of the equation where you find a recorder/converter.

The cam takes in DivX/MPEG4 movies at 720×480 pixels (30fps). Memory comes by way of SD cards with a 2GB card giving you enough room for 80 minutes of nuttiness. Thankfully, the whole thing has been built to sustain some rather massive abuse, being water and shock-resistant up to 1 meter and surviving temperatures from -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.

Available for pre-order for $849.95.
