Dial it up, because Kingston Technology is giving their Ultimate line of CompactFlash memory cards a swift kick in the kaboodle. The newly revealed memory cards boast a significant increase in write speed compared to their immediate predecessors, now boasting a formidable rating of 266X. As you recall, earlier cards had the 133X insignia plastered on their faces.

In addition to the faster write speeds, the new Ultimate CompactFlash cards will also come with MediaRECOVER data recovery software that is designed — as you can probably guess — to “help restore lost, deleted or corrupted image files.” You’d hate to lose that perfect snapshot because of a faulty file, after all.

The new Kingston CompactFlash Ultimate cards will be available in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB capacities for $83, $144, and $280, respectively. The 266x rating roughly translates to 45MB/sec reading and 40MB/sec writing.
