At this time, it doesn’t get much smaller than the microSD format in terms of memory cards. Sandisk wasn’t going to let the tiny form factor hold them back, however. Oh no. They’re going to push the card that’s smaller than a thumbnail to a whole new horizon.

Sandisk has announced that they will soon be selling 6GB and 8GB versions of the MicroSDHC memory card, a format that works with many cutting edge cell phones. Of course, in order to access all six (or eight) gigs, your mobile handset will likely need some sort of firmware upgrade. Otherwise, it won’t recognize that it’s still got lots of room to go.

We haven’t heard how much these mega MicroSDHC cards will go for, but we do know that the 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card — which was also announced at the same time — will sell for $100 a piece.
