Gateway Recalls 14,000 Notebook Batteries

You can add Gateway to the list of notebook manufacturers who have issued recalls for battery packs because of fire hazards. A total of 14,000 Gateway batteries are being recalled in the 400VTX and 450ROG series notebooks.

Gateway joins other high-profile companies like Sony and Toshiba, the latter of which reported a laptop fire just last month. Sony’s massive recall involved 10 million. Gateway’s is nowhere near that high, but the concern is the same: reports of burning notebook batteries.

With all of these major manufacturers reporting laptop battery problems, you’re probably either affected personally or know someone who is. Bottom line: Keep a fire extinguisher and pail of water handy, just in case.
