You’d expect something electric from the Lightning Car Company, and that’s what we have here. The British automaker’s new model will be the GT, which looks a bit like a Jaguar but runs 700hp on nothing but electricity.

Lightning plans three different models of the GT: a luxury model with all the bells and whistles, a lighterweight “sport” version, and a long-distance model (which can achieve 250 miles between recharges).

We’ll start to see these vehicles on the road beginning as early as next year. Whether they carry the buzz of the Tesla remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: With the price of petrol so high in the U.K., interest in anything that doesn’t require a dependence on foreign oil will be a welcome topic of discussion.
