We think that this wireless football helmet monitor is a really good ideas. We like the fact that the system will monitor head acceleration, and we like the fact that the data can be analyzed by a computer and can lead quickly to a diagnosis of “Sit on the sidelines so we can examine your head for serious injury.”

We definitely like the fact that it’s more than one or two colleges who are joining the manufacturer, Simbex, in testing the Head Impact Telemetry system.

What we don’t like, though, is the acronym that gets formed when you shorten the product name to its initials: Head Impact Telemetry becomes HIT, which seems to be the very thing that can cause brain injuries in the first place.
