I remember years ago when having a cell phone with a color display was a very big deal. Not so much anymore, so Sharp has come along and developed a new mobile LCD that offers the industry’s highest contrast ratio, rated at 2000:1. But wait, there’s more.

This tiny color screen also has an incredible horizontal viewing angle of 176 degrees and a high-speed response time of just 8ms. These specs are almost as good as the full-sized LCD that you may be using to read this post (or to watch television on).

A sample shipment of the newer, brighter mobile LCDs is expected for this autumn, with the initial release being targeted at One-Seg-compatible mobile phones. Later on, Sharp hopes to implement the screens in other cell phones as well as digital cameras.
