While the Suzuki Swift was kicking around the United States and Canada between 1995 and 2003, it was sold as the el cheapo econobox that no one really wanted unless it was the only car they could afford. Things have changed. In 2004, a sportier Suzuki Swift was introduced in Europe and the 2010 hatchback scheduled to hit US showrooms in 2010 will be following in this newfound direction.

It will likely still be the super affordable grocery getter that we have grown to know and love recognize, but it will have a significantly sportier personality. They want Americans to see the new Swift as a “pocket rocket”, perhaps competing against vehicles like the VW Rabbit and Honda Fit. It is still unclear whether the new Swift will be built in North America, imported from Japan, or manufactured somewhere else.
