I know, it looks just like a regular desktop radio, but underneath that unassuming skin is the power of “crystal-clear HD Radio sound quality”. The Cambridge SoundWorks Radio 802HD started shipping today, providing happy customers with the great high-definition radio that they’ve come to expect.

Unlike satellite radio, HD Radio has no monthly fee. Instead, regular AM and FM stations can “multi-cast” both an analog and a digital signal to their listeners, the latter of which is picked up by the 802HD. In addition to the CD-quality sound, HD radio also offers “services such as real-time weather and traffic updates, and scrolling text and graphics content.”

HD radio may be the next big thing, and while you don’t have to pay any monthly fees for it, the up-front cost compared to a regular radio can be a little off-putting. The Cambridge SoundWorks Radio 802HD stereo table radio, for example, retails for $299.99.
