Apparently due to popular demand from its customers, Dell will soon be pre-installing Linux on a number of its computers — both desktops and laptops — giving everyone the opportunity to play with a penguin. While the appeal of Linux can stand on its own just fine, an extra incentive to get a Linux-powered Dell computer is that it may lower the price on the PCs substantially, because you wouldn’t have to buy Windows Vista.

The Linux love will not be offered throughout their entire lineup, but rather only in “select desktop and laptop systems”. In the survey that Dell issued last month, over 70 percent of respondents “said that they would use a Dell system with a Linux OS for both home and office use, and said they wanted a choice between both notebook and desktop offerings.”
