Don’t let that unassuming stance fool you, there are some DSLR brains under that point-and-shoot facade. The Nikon P5000 rocks a powerful 10 megapixel imaging sensor and 3.5x optical zoom, but more importantly, it has the same image processing engine as the much more expensive D80 digital SLR. The P5000 still isn’t quite a DSLR, but it’s got the power to do almost the same thing.

Other niceties include optical VR image stabilization, the ability to add optional lens for telephoto and wide angle, and a 2.5-inch LCD preview screen. Fitting somewhere between the low-end and the high-end, the Nikon Coolpix P5000 is priced at $399.95.
