It’s no replacement for the TT, but the Audi A5 is designed to tackle the exact same segment as the BMW 3-Series Coupe. Based on these initial pictures, it’s a little hard to say how it will do. On the one hand, it takes much of what Audi’s been doing lately in terms of the trapezoidal grill and whatnot, but the profile has enough slick and silky lines to give it a sense of being an aerodynamic sports car.
There will be no shortage of power either, as the A5 will come equipped with a 4.2L V8, paired with either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. Alternatively, you can opt for the “corporate DSG gearbox, called the S-tronic in Audi parlance.”
No word on pricing, but they’re saying that by the time the A5 actually hits dealerships (it’s making an official debut in Geneva), a new G35 Coupe from Infiniti should be ready, adding yet another competitor to an increasingly crowded market.
